Well, it would only mess up the other applications until you were done and turned off the ASIO drivers. If windows isn't recognizing it (like I see in your screenshot) then it may be setting with abbleton.
The ASIO drivers were really meant more for outboard audio interfaces but, I have seen them used with an array of various virtual instruments and synths. It is possible that Vista is just being a butt. Mackie didn't even write drivers for Vista until long after Vista was released. Unless someone can think of something I'm missing, I really don't understand what is going on.
