Good to know. I just had to replace the battery in my D50, and had to reload all the factory patches.

You're talking about two different batteries. There are the batteries that apparently the DS can run on as an alternative to using a power cord. Then there is an internal battery on older keyboards that powers storage areas on the keyboard in order to hold all of your custom/user data/patches when the keyboard is turned off. Newer keyboards store this data on EEProms or flash memory and therefore no internal batteries are required to store this user data.
