OK- with money being tight- and I'm unable to find any decent rack mounted synth- i decided to look for something small in size that I can MIDI to to give me more sounds.

Currently I have a Kurzweill PC-88 (which is getting old and tied) and the Korg M50. I just need to add some additional patches for live gigs (strings/organ etc)- Would going with something small like the:
MicroKorg/Alesis Micron/Novation Xio- give me enough patches to play with for the short term? I see these little guys have lots of "synth" hip hop sounds- but do they also have some regular decent patches?

No (IMO) - nothing better than you have already with the PC88 + M50 combination.

If money's tight as you say - make do - that's a good set-up you have.

If you want someone to help you spend money - post this question in the electronic instruments forum over at gearslutz. You'll get lot's of advice/opinions.

Good luck.
