Cannot get Casio kybd to talkto nano bass module.
casio has usb A and usb B, nano has din connections .
my usb/midi adaptors are not working, because I believe they are designed to go one way, Ie start at kybd w/ din ( host ) and go to device, ie computer or module with usb A . Am I correct with that ? Connecting usb to kybd and going to nano module is backward …..correct ?
There has to be a way to do it.
anyway, my nano box does work with direct din to din from a Roland kybd,. But I cannot fig a connection method from Casio kybd usb to nano.
All midi #’s set to 1. Nothing fancy for now. It’s frustrating .
any ideas welcome ,. Thx

You must have a host device in between. The host can be a computer, an iPad/iPhone, or a standalone box. The least expensive I know of (at least in the U.S.) is the Camola DoreMIDI. The "name brand" device would be the one from Kenton, which is a company known for good support.

Still cannot connect . Why ?/?
trying to connect kybd w/ usb B out to a module with only 5-pin din connections . Module works, tested w/ other kybd w/ din midi out . USB B out connector of kybd 1 works….tested. Tried usb/midi adaptor cable , ie usb A thru small circuit box to midi din in/out connectors . Does not work …..with usb A out of kybd to module, nor, Usb A with B adaptor, out of kybd to module.
seems those usb/midi adaptor cables only do a signal one way , Not the way I want.
has anyone else tried to do this ? Connect a module w/ dins, to a kybd (controller) with only usb out ?
I bought a dore /Caminola as suggested , but no joy. Only has din in, and midi/adaptor cable does not work …I think signal wrong way .
Very weird…..seems like a simple setup. Just missing the correct thinking of midi connectors.
That for any suggestions .

There is no usb into Dore . Only din.
The usb B connector on Dors box is power only , according to directions ,
Is there a box like the Dore with usb input , din out ?

You have to use the USB Host port (USB A), not the USB power port. There must be a host between your Casio and your Nano, this box functions as that host.

On the Casio end, you need to connect to the USB-B port, the same one you would use to connect it to a computer. (The DoreMIDI box is taking the place of the computer, which is the most common host device.)

So re-stating more specifically:

USB cable from Casio USB-B port to DoreMIDI "HOST" connector (USB-A)

5-pin MIDI cable from DoreMIDI Out to Nano Bass MIDI In

If it helps, conceptually, this is the signal path you're after:

You play notes on the Casio, and that MIDI gets sent OUT of the Casio INTO the host. The host then takes that MIDI and sends it back OUT to the Nano's IN so that the Nano can sound those notes that were played on (and sent by) the Casio.

Strange. I can test the usb B port out of Casio to comp w/ DAW. using Usb B to usb Acable. (printer cable ) It sends a signal ,
If I test the usbA port from casio to comp ( I have a two ended usb A cable ) , No connection. This means that either the usb A out of Casio is not working, or the midi signal does not like that unusual cable.
There is no mini usb port from Casio, and neither is labeled host.
I ‘m assuming from above testing that the usb B is the host port …..tho…..wrong ?

so , you think that connecting my midi adapter cable to A Casio port, to Dore, then din to module should work…right?
Something ‘s not correct.
Thanks for answering.

Right, that should work.

Right, that should not work.

USB-A and USB-B ports are functionally different. They don't make them different just to make things complicated, they make them different to try to make sure people don't try to do things like what you tried to do there, so that people won't create setups that can't work.

There is no mini usb port from Casio, and neither is labeled host.

That is correct. Sorry for the confusion, I was mistaken about which Casio you had, since you hadn't listed a model. They're not all the same, and I had a different model on the brain from a post to someone else. I have corrected the post above, to change it from saying micro-USB to saying standard USB-B.

so , you think that connecting my midi adapter cable to A Casio port, to Dore, then din to module should work…right?

No "midi adapter cable." Just a standard USB "printer cable" from the Casio (USB-B) to the DoreMIDI (USB-A), and a 5-pin MIDI cable from the 5-pin Out of the DoreMIDI to the 5-pin In of the Nano.

Dore has no usb input . Only a usb B , which instructions say is only a power port.
has din midi input.
my Casio is a cop-s360.
all my components are working , nano, dore, casino, all midI and patch cords + amp (I’ve connected with another Kybd, with dins, to test it all)
Just need a midi signal to the Dore, or directly to the nano. is there another usb/midi adaptor other than the standard ?
I have 4…they‘Re all the same. Seems to block the midi path from Casio usb out to dore, or nano. Like only one way signnal.
Thanks for staying with it.
If the Casio had din out, my ptobs would be over, but this model is the right size ( 9” deep ) for my crazy setup.

DoreMIDI has a USB input, it is the USB A marked host, as illustrated below (lower left of the picture). That's the connection you have to use to connect it to the Casio, using a regular USB printer cable.

Yea. I bought the wrong one ,. A thru-6, W/ 6 outputs . Thought I could use them.
it definitely only has a usb B port, to be used for power. And the only input is din.
will try to exchange (Amazon). Been frustrating. Nobody near me (Humboldt county) knows anything this deep about midi connections. And I got no-where to test, ie, in the Bany Area.
Thx. I think getting above box is the path to success.

Ah, that explains it! Yes, they make some different boxes, it has to be a USB Host device as I originally linked to. But yeah, Amazon will do a free return, and you can just order the other one instead.

Yea. I had figured (wrong) that they’re both host boxes.
maybe this one will host a garden party.
More later, after 5 day delivery time.
‘thx again
