MIDI setup diagram needed

I'm an old piano player that needs to expand a bit. I am playing. Roland RD300NX and would like to be able to switch from the RD onboard voices to a soft synth instrument, switch again to use an onboard RD voice with a VST or standalone effect plugin Meldaproductions 'Vintage Rotary' . Trying to expand my horizons. I can't seem to wrap my head around the channel assignments or just how to configure this. Can someone help or Point me to a diagram of cord/cable/channel routings. I have sonar SPLAT and XLN ADK I would like to utilize.

What is "SPLAT"? I can't find an answer on Cakewalk.com, but I see it mentioned a lot in the SONAR forums. The best I can figure out is that it's short for "SONAR Platinum"; is that correct?
