My old Korg Polysix and my even older Minikorg need a lot of love and attention.
I'm in the process of moving and so my studio is going to be torn apart and rebuilt in the next 2 months or so. No budget for new gear. Moving and building cost a lot! I'll be doing videos of the main build once we get to living at the new place. I've got 5 videos on YouTube showing the various stages as it all sits so far but it's mostly just bare walls.

I thought I was done hemorrhaging money on the studio, but the Mac mini has ripped a brand new gaping hole in my wallet.

Compared to linux it's like night and day.

With Linux, usually everything was a free download, no muss, no fuss, you could find the exact utility you needed and install it 123, or worst case, compile the package yourself and you were off to the races. :)

With Mac, every miserable snippet of code SCREAMS at you to UPGRADE TO PRO/PLATINUM/WHATEVER to "unlock" the basic features you were basically looking for in the first place.

And Apple-pay just makes it so simple you could rapidly lose track of subscriptions and end with monthly credit card bills in the hundreds. :p

Anyway, until I have this thing working happily with my keyboards and MIDI gear my studio is not nearly as complete as I thought. :p

So what you're saying is then, unless you have more dollars than sense, oops, cents, don't go the Apple route.
I'm poor, so I'm staying with the antique PC that I have. t still starts, as long as I remember to wind the spring up!

I am going to expand my hard drive space once I get moved though. It's getting to full. I'm probably going to get a 2 terrabite SSD. Maybe. At least a 1. I have to look into the reliability of them first. I figure they're probably pretty good a stable. I also have to get a better back up system. I'd really hate to loose stuff, doncha know?

I went with one of these to augment the mini.

I was warned these can get hot in use.

This one barely gets warm.

Even so, you should run it thru a powered hub.

USB 3.0 or better.

BTW, I got mine last month for 26% off the current Amazon List Price of $289.

I paid around $230 for it. Came to about $260 with HST.

You know how Amazon's crazy casino pricing works. Just wait for a sale.

OK, It KEEPS evolving. In comes Polybrute... Pro3 is relegated to a top shelf lol. Im not setting it (at least not yet). Its small enough to pull down and use if I need to. Midi and Audio cables will be hard routed next time I do that, so they will be ready just to plug in.

Also in a Conductive Labs MRCC Midi router. Ive outgrown my Motu. I still have that mounted behind the Virus, as that shelf is a "live" shelf and the Motu is fine for the bits I take live.

all audio and Midi cabling is (or will be - I have a couple more coming of the right length and right angle connectors where appropriate to keep things neat) hard routed here. All my live cables (midi and audio) which are cut to size and loomed for live now live in the "live Bag". all home cables that belong to the live gear are labelled - so its just plug the right label into the correspondingly labelled inputs when I get home. Quick and easy.

both 1U mixers have an FX send/Return to My Fractal Axe-FX-3 guitar processor - with a custom routing preset (basically two independant ins and outs with their won FX chain). so I can ruin 1 outboard FX mix per mixer. Its not perfect (cant run 1 per synth) but its Done for when I need quality FX on something (particularly the Sequentials).

The MRRC is a complex beast.... but easy to use. A simple "press input source, then press destination button" to set up a routing, auto merges when more than 1 input goes to an output, and auto splits the other way. Not only is it easy to re-route on the fly, it holds 127 presets of configurations. All complete with Midi filtering (the standard), mapping (ports to channels, CC conversions - which means I can control Polybrute volume via the EXP Pedal sent to volume on CC11 from fantoms volume slider Tx'ing on CC7). Also has midi clock, Midi Arps, and various other things Im not using. I actually ran out of inputs, luckily they make a 4x1 expander. This plugs into one of the USB Host ports, and uses that to prove 4 more DIN inputs and 1 more DIN output. I dont have much left lol. 1 Host USB (Im going to add a NDLR going in here), 1 Spare Din in and 2 Spare DIN outs (the Pro 3 will occupy the Din in and 1 of the outs). so Ill only have 1 spare Din out intimately. You can add more expanders (each one uses a USB host though) and also another MRCC via a dedicated expansion port. That adds more outs, but I dont think it adds more ins unfortunately (Ill have to dig into that).

Sp _ Preset wise I have:

Preset 1: All boards route to all synths AND HAPAX. The exception is Iridium and Polybrute cant route to the RD21000 or Fantom (as they need 16 channels each). Its also set so that the LFE is connected to the Prophet and controllers are routed through that.

Preset 2: Identical to Preset 1 BUT LFE is routed to the PB6.

Preset 3: This sends Polybrute and Iridium to Fantom and NOT the other synths - so I get Poly Aftertouch control of Fantoms 16 zones.

Preset 4: The same as 3 but sending to the RD2000.

HAPAX has 1 send to the MRCC to the synths as perset 1. It then sends a seperate routed out via USB to Fantom, andother to the RD, and a DIN to the TR8s (just for sync purposes, and I can sequence drums on the HAPAX rather than the TR8s if I want to).

So - With a couple of button presses (well a scroll of a when and a button press on the MRCC, and 2 button presses on the LFE if needed) , ANYTHING can play or control ANYTHING, I cant Record ANY Source from any ANY board, and play back from Hapax to ALL sound sources independently.

Here is the rig I used with a James brown tribute band. it's a MUSE setup with software instruments - VB3 Hammond, Lounge Lizard EP, I believe an early PianoTeq acoustic. Axiom keyboards, everything dialed for one-key program or preset change using the Drum Pads. The monitor was not all that useful, but looked cool. I don't remember what speakers, I thought they were JBLs but that one showing doesn't look like it (they are back in 'the midden,' so I won't dive in to find them.) But it sounded GREAT!

I REALLY wanted to buy a MUSEbox 10 years ago but sadly they went out of business quickly.

They just couldn't keep up with the technology and ROMpler modules have sadly become a thing of the ancient past.

Plenty of modules nowadays but they are pretty much dedicated grooveboxes or analog synths and none of them can import a VST :p

Hahah, I think if I flick the BX the wrong way it might blow up, so avoiding aerials LOL.

I was using K&M Omega stands. But I just got Liquid Stands Z-stands with casters...game changer! Rolling my keys all over the place, best decision. Now it's not an ordeal if I get all set up on stage and then get told I need to move a foot to the left.

Oh I am all about neatness when it comes to cables. They're laid together in a single row on the ground running to the sound board. I had to untangle enough N64 controllers in my life to never want that to happen when I need to load in and out haha.
