I've been listening to Jamie Cullum's BBC Radio 2 jazz show recently, and have liked quite a few pieces I've heard. One by Thelonious Monk last night was pretty good! Can any jazz fans suggest some performers I should check out? (for someone who hasn't really listened to jazz before) :)

Cab Calloway, check him out in The Blues Brothers movie singing Minnie The Moocher
Candy Dulfer (jazz funk) start with "sax a go go"
Benny Goodman, start off with this all time great concert of him and his orchestra.

Another great pairing is Billy Eckstine and Sarah Vaughan and this is one of the best of all times imho

As a side issue, Wigan Jazz Festival is held each year and is one of the best in the UK, a few years ago we saw an orchestra recreate the Benny Goodman concert, it was awesome, enjoy the original.

Blues and harmonica?
This was my first experience, with Max Geldray in the Goon Shows back in the late fifties.
Good old radios that took and age to warm up, and glowed in the dark.

The picture isn't obviously of Max.

The other, on telly, was Larry Adler.

Both great chromatic harmonica and blues/jazz players.
Lary played the theme tune to the film Genevieve.

Gary.

That explains everything.

Constantly chaffed dangly bits due to the lederhosen and incessant thigh slapping have to have an effect on a guy.
